candy lacquer

Got nail polish mail! I was tempted by all the holiday polishes coming out and I finally bought these a few weeks ago and had on pam whimsical’s kitty glitter when they arrived and I just polished over that.

This is part of her MLP series and I liked this shiny star, heart, whitish/silverish glitter the most.

it’s really pretty and I can’t wait to try it on other colors, although I can’t think what those will be at the moment.

Got snow bunny a bit impulsively as I wasn’t really looking to buy it, but I wasn’t disappointed. It’s a lovely combination of pink, blue, purple and silver.

NOTD: Glimmer by Erica

Received my three bottles of Glimmer by erica glitter bombs.

As you can see from below pics, they are chock full of glitter!

I was really excited to try them so I didn’t use any under coat (or underwear as some call it). I realised that the transparent base means coverage is really limited even if I put on lots of coats.

I did try a gazillion coats. Still not the effect I wanted.

So I started out with a-England’s percival and then put on three coats of Muy Caliente for the effect below.

Lovely shininess but some frens weren’t keen on it.

really old NOTD: OPI Lincoln Park in the Dark Gels

These are very long ago pictures. I just haven’t downloaded and uploaded. πŸ™‚ They were my first gel nails and I wanted black but it was very sheer so the color was changed to “Lincoln Park in the Dark”. It later led me to get “Lincoln Park at Midnight”.

For someone who likes to peel nails whenever there’s a little chip, gels were a very good idea. But afterward it came off, my nails seemed to be really weak.

NOTD: Pumpkin and Candy Corn by The Nail Junkie

I like The Nail Junkie’s halloween collection, especially candy corn and pumpkin. I really like the idea of candy corn, although I don’t like to eat them, because they really remind me of this season. It was something that was part of my childhood. Pumpkin looks so refreshing with the green flakes and bits.

My painting’s not fantastic and I have tried a few times with the Candy Corn. It’s rather bumpy but actually a texture I keep sliding my fingers over. ;p The pumpkin goes on rather well.

That’s all for my latest polish in the mail. What are your favorite halloween polishes?

NOTD: Fish by The Nail Junkie (swatches of the rest later)

Received my second batch of indie polishes, from The Nail Junkie. Besides the polishes themselves, she also added a “cutie balm” and glitter removal felt pieces. And, some halloween goodies!! πŸ™‚

I got Candy Corn, Fish and Pumpkin. The two orangy ones, as you can guess, are part of her halloween collection. There’s now a giveaway, so join now! I’m going to start swatches with the fish polish. I actually swatched candy corn first but I was in such a hurry to build layers that it got a bit messy and I had to remove it. I also wanted to try Pumpkin and painted over and it became a real mess. I was just too impatient to see how all of them would look! πŸ™‚

Here’s the fish:

AD said this one looks like the sparkling sea. I didn’t manage to catch one in strong sunlight but it does sparkle with hexagonal glitters. There are also smaller blue glitters, in a shimmery blue base. It’s quite sheer so I put in about 4 coats to get it to the solid color that I like.

NOTD: Seuss and Kitty Glitter (updated with pic)

Updated with a picture. The amigurumi kitty, named Cave, is one I made quite a while ago. Realised when I saw pam’s card that Cave matched the kitty on it. So he become a prop too with the two polishes I got from her. πŸ™‚

These are my first indie polishes from Whimsical ideas by pam! Waited forever for them, not because they were sent out late, but because it spent so much time in the post. pam doesn’t send out of the States so I had to go a roundabout route to obtain these, Β with many thanks to a dear friend.

I like most of pam’s whimsical polishes but I was really smitten by Seuss.

I almost didn’t get another polish, as this was my first indie purchase but decided to try kitty glitter as well. I’m glad I got it cos I maybe possibly like it more than Seuss! It’s a beautiful color with small and large glitter.

The formular of both bottles I got was good, and the polish went on really smoothly. Seuss is a bit more sheer and I needed at least three coats to cover Visible Nail Line. The only thing is that they smell quite strongly, compared to some of the other brands that i have been using. It was the same with cirque as well, although the smell is slightly different.

I would love to get more so I hope she will consider shipping internationally sometime soon!

Another try!

I just can’t give up on the cirque. I went back and put on another approximately (i lost count) two coats of polish and three of topcoat. That makes about 8 layers and it’s crazy! So, I decided that I’m gonna have to wear this till it chips off to nothing (ok, jus until it looks unpresentable or I get tired of it or I’m tempted by another polish).

Here’s the result of my hard work!

NOTD: cirque dark horse…operator issues

I was debating between this and butter london’s gobsmacked. I also wondered about whether I was getting something similar to aengland’s bridal veil. this seemed something different – mixed by hand in NY, with essential oils. So I decided to try especially after seeing amazing swatches.

I have to say I don’t know if it’s just me but I really had a difficult time with the formula. This is actually my third attempt! Basically I would have to describe it as painting black sand (or rather, glitter) in a clear base. It takes three coats to get some color. It dries matt and rough like Deborah Lippmann’s “girls gone wild” and sucks up topcoat. It took me three coats of topcoat to get it looking glossy. In the picture I have three coats of topcoat on my middle finger and one on my pinky. See the difference?

This is my first scented polish and actually the formula smells mostly and strongly of solvent. There’s a light smell of something else but I can’t really place it as lavender.

I kind of regretted getting this when my first attempts were failing and I was having an awful time taking off the polish (it’s not as bad as glitter polish but takes elbow grease!). I almost just left my nails bare as I wasn’t in the mood for another color. But I really wanted to make it work after recalling all the gorgeous swatches out there. Lookin at how it came out im not entirely satisfied. I’m not quite happy with it. I may need to find a new home for it. Sadly it was quite expensive. 😦 I don’t get it, cos many bloggers seemed to have no problems with the formula.

It doesnt appear exactly black, like aEngland’s bridal veil but it gets darker with the topcoat.
